Between Our Legs: Silence-Breaking Personal Narratives on Gynecological Health

to be held at Solid State Books on H St. NE

In a world where even saying the word “vagina” can feel taboo, Between Our Legs breaks the silence surrounding gynecological health. Featuring essays by award-winning authors Nina de Gramont, Nafissa Thompson-Spires, and Jessica Hendry Nelson, as well as by practicing medical experts, this collection explores topics ranging from childbirth, menopause, abortion, endometriosis, and PMOS to yeast and urinary tract infections, while contending with the shame, frustrations, and stigmas that women, nonbinary, and trans individuals navigate when searching for basic care.

Caroline Beuley is a writer based in Washington, D.C. She earned her MFA in Fiction Writing from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Her writing has been supported by the Breadloaf Writers’ Conference. Her stories have been published widely and nominated for Best of the Net and Wigleaf's Best Small Fictions. She is currently working on a short story collection and a young adult fantasy novel, and she publishes weekly on her bestelling Substack, Fairy Tales by Caroline.

Jessica Hendry Nelson is the author of the memoirs Joy Rides Through the Tunnel of Grief (2023), If Only You People Could Follow Directions (2014), and co-author of Advanced Creative Nonfiction: A Writer’s Guide and Anthology (2021).

Her Audible bestselling book, The Pain Gap: How Sexism and Racism in Healthcare Kill Women and her show, “The Pain Gap Podcast” provide a vital platform for critical conversations about medical gaslighting and misogyny, creating a much needed examination of the women’s health crisis in America.
